Germany’s Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the purchase of 20 additional Eurofighter fighter jets at the International Airshow in Berlin this week. According to a recent Spiegel report, the German government is also considering buying eight to ten more F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin fighter jets.
The Bundeswehr decided two years ago in favor of the so-called nuclear sharing for the procurement of a total of 35 F-35 jets. According to Der Spiegel, the Ministry of Defense and the German Air Force now see the need for more aircraft. https://militaeraktuell.at/oberst-juergen-pirolt-im-militaer-aktuell-interview/ This is probably due to considerations regarding the availability of the F-35 jets, which are to be stationed in Büchel. In its article, Der Spiegel refers to insiders who emphasize that the 35 F-35s ordered are in principle well equipped, but that around eight of the German fighter jets will remain in the USA for training and will therefore not be available in Germany. The F-35 is currently regarded as the most modern fighter jet in the world.
In addition to Germany, numerous other countries (including the Netherlands and SwitzerlandDenmark -> Arrival of the first F-35 in the countryBelgium -> Rollout of the first F-35A for Belgium, Czech Republic and Greece and Poland -> where the new F-35s are referred to as Husarz) have decided to procure them.
