The Swedish aircraft manufacturer Saab has opened a new center in the Hungarian capital Budapest as a “hub for innovation and cooperation” and initially plans to employ 20 to 30 people there. In a further expansion phase, the number of employees is to rise to as many as 100.

The partnership between Hungary and Saab dates back to 2001. At that time, Hungary ordered its first Gripen fighter aircraft. In terms of content, the new center will focus primarily on the further development of avionics.

Zsolt Kutnyánszky, State Secretary for Defense Policy, Armed Forces Development and Defense Industry of the Ministry of Defense, emphasized the good cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and Saab during the opening of the new center. “The development of air capabilities is a great opportunity for the Hungarian aerospace industry in terms of innovation, scientific research and training,” said Kutnyánszky. “It will connect the government, the industry and the academic world.”

Lars Tossman, Senior Vice President of Saab and Head of the Aviation business area, pointed out at the opening that Sweden is deepening its cooperation with Hungary with the new office. “The opening of the new office and the establishment of the Air Capability Development Center is a win-win for all of us, whether in virtual reality projects, exploring new opportunities in artificial intelligence or software development,” said the head of the business area.
