Surprising bloodletting for the Swiss Armed Forces: after 35 years of service, Air Force Chief of Staff Peter Merz has announced his departure at the end of September. On November 1, he will become the new CEO of the air navigation service provider Skyguide.

“I remain 100 percent convinced of the sense and necessity of a strong army. It is not for nothing that I have dedicated my entire professional career to the Swiss Armed Forces and the security of our country,” said Merz in a personal statement.

He continues: “This new role offers me the opportunity to continue to put my experience and skills at the service of aviation and Switzerland, and to contribute to advancing aviation and strengthening the very good cooperation between civil and military players.”

Merz concludes: “Thank you very much for the appreciation and trust that has been placed in me and the many acquaintances I have been able to make over the years. I am looking forward to the new challenge, exciting projects and working with new and old faces.”
