It has recently become known that Skyzone Cobra V4 FPV drone goggles have been found in Russia that have been tampered with and contain 10 to 15 grams of C-4 explosives, a detonator and a battery. According to the reports, the device is triggered as soon as the cooling fan in the goggles starts.

Around 80 sets of these FPV goggles were sent to various units of the Russian army by several public organizations that collect donations for the Russian armed forces. A search and seizure operation of the “mined” goggles is currently underway. Russian authorities have identified the sender of the packages as a person who left the Russian Federation on a flight from Moscow to Istanbul on February 3.

Russia blames the Ukrainian secret services for the sabotage. However, the latter has not yet commented on the reports of explosives in the FPV goggles of Russian drone pilots.

The sabotage was probably discovered when one of the explosive devices detonated on the head of a Russian soldier in the Belgorod region on February 4. The soldier suffered injuries to his face and eyes. Between February 4 and 7, a further seven detonations of explosive devices in FPV goggles were recorded in the Kursk, Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

The glasses are now also being x-rayed. A Russian Telegram channel reports on a pair of sabotaged glasses that were purchased.

As a reminder: in September 2024, thousands of Taiwanese-made pagers exploded in the hands of Hezbollah. The Israeli secret service Mossad had long prepared the operation with manipulated pagers from Taiwan. The simultaneous remote detonation killed nine people and injured around 3,000 – including many Hezbollah leaders and the Iranian ambassador in Beirut.
