Schiebel together with the Korean companies Hanwha Systems and UI Helicopter, has been awarded a contract by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) for the development and delivery of the Camcopter S-300 for the country’s Navy and Marine Corps.
According to a recent press release, the S-300 is to be used locally for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions. The South Korean Navy has been a Schiebel customer for more than ten years and regularly carries out ISR operations at sea with its S-100 fleet.
“We are very pleased that the South Korean Navy and Marine Corps have built on their
experience and success with the S-100 and have placed an order with Hanwha for our new S-300. With its long flight endurance and high carrying capacity, the system is an absolute milestone in our history,” said Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group. The STANAG-compliant S-300 has a flight duration of up to 24 hours and can operate at an altitude of up to 21,000 feet (around 6,400 meters), making ISTAR missions possible over longer periods and from high altitudes. The payload capacity is 250 kilograms, and the S-300 can also drop payloads such as anti-submarine warfare (ASW) sonar buoys. https://militaeraktuell.at/gdels-steyr-225-neue-pandur-fuer-das-bundesheer/ To ensure maximum flexibility and cost efficiency for its customers, the heavy-lift capable S-300 can be controlled from the same ground control station as the S-100.
