The US company DT Research is launching two new 6-inch tablets for the military and homeland security: the DT361DM and DT361AM variants. According to the company, these are “two particularly compact, powerful Windows devices for military use”, both of which are equipped with high-performance Core-i CPUs, walkie-talkie function and night vision display. In German-speaking countries, the tablets are available from sales partner Concept International.

Soldiers can easily carry the tablets – which weigh just 454 grams – with them or attach them to optional fold-out vest holders for hands-free operation. The 6-inch touch displays with a resolution of 1440×730 pixels are fully anti-glare and therefore easy to operate even in daylight. For use in the dark, the daylight mode or a night vision mode with greatly reduced brightness can be selected as an option. With the walkie-talkie function via push-to-talk button and integrated WLAN, the devices are also suitable for communication. https://militaeraktuell.at/sonderschutzfahrzeuge-achleitner-made-in-tirol/ Additional freely assignable hardware buttons guarantee quick access to the desired functions and programs. The DT361DM also offers optional front and rear cameras for documentation in the field. Uninterrupted operation is ensured with the hot-swap batteries with a runtime of six to ten hours. These allow the batteries to be changed quickly while the device is in use. An optional charging cradle for four devices and a charging station for six batteries are also available.

Powerful inner workings in the smallest of spaces

The “star” inside the DT361DM is the powerful 10-core Intel Core i7-1250U processor in combination with a whopping 16 gigabytes of RAM and up to one terabyte of SSD storage. The DT361AM model features a slightly more energy-efficient 4-core Intel Core i7-10510Y processor with 16 gigabytes of RAM and 256 gigabytes of flash memory. “This powerful inner workings of the devices enable data collection and analysis, for example information on position and movements in the field using external sensors such as GPS, accelerometer and gyroscope. At the same time, IT-supported decisions can be made quickly and correctly in the field,” says DT Research. Real-time information can also be used to control unmanned systems such as drones.

For example, additional high-precision GNSS measuring devices on the roof of a tank can be connected via long-range Bluetooth with a data connection of up to 30 meters for centimetre-precise positioning. A Bluetooth connection to a helmet camera is also possible in order to send video feeds to the tactical control center in real time. The tablets can be integrated into existing IT infrastructures with the option of Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise. In addition, the DT361DM’s SSD hard drive is easily accessible so that mission-critical data can be easily removed if necessary.

Ready for use in the toughest conditions

The tablets can withstand the toughest conditions: IP65 certification guarantees complete protection against dust ingress and protection against water jets (nozzle) from any angle. This also makes the devices suitable for marine applications. Vibration and drop resistance from at least 1.2 meters is guaranteed by the military standard MIL-STD-810H. The MIL-STD-461G certification also confirms the increased electromagnetic compatibility of the tablets, for example when used in mobile command centers. As standard, the devices can be operated at zero to 90 percent humidity and temperatures of zero to 50 degrees Celsius. Thanks to an optional integrated heat pad, the DT361DM model can also be operated in extremely cold temperatures of up to minus 30 degrees Celsius. https://militaeraktuell.at/bundesheer-innovativer-erster-schritt-ins-all/ According to DT Research, the devices are particularly durable and low-maintenance. The company also offers long product lifecycles and repairability for its military and industrial tablets. All display solutions can also be individually configured for maximum flexibility.

List price and service

The DT361DM and DT361AM rugged tablets are now available from Concept International. The list prices start at 1,850 euros. Instead of the standard two-year warranty, Concept also offers an extended warranty of up to five years. The comprehensive all-round carefree package is rounded off with additional insurance cover, both for leasing and for purchase.
