600 musicians, eight Austrian military bands and a member of the Trapp family – these and other highlights of the Military Music Festival 2025 were presented at a press conference in the Schwarzenberg barracks on Monday.

Minister of Defense Klaudia Tanner, Salzburg Governor Wilfried Haslauer, Managing Director of the Licht ins Dunkel association Mario Thaler and the Head of Humanitarian Broadcasting at ORF, Lisa Zuckerstätter, provided details about the Military Music Festival 2025, which will take place on 7 and 8 May in the Salzburgarena.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “The Military Music Festival 2025 will be a celebration of sounds, emotions and community. The fact that we are setting an example of solidarity together with Licht ins Dunkel makes this event all the more meaningful. The focus is not only on the music, but also on the idea of doing good together and bringing people together. We are looking forward with great anticipation to two days full of musical highlights, impressive performances and emotional moments.”

The Military Music Festival 2025 promises a spectacular show with over 600 musicians from Austria and abroad. To mark the anniversary year, eight Austrian military bands, international orchestras and a project orchestra will present well-known pieces from the past decades.

The concert opens with “Also sprach Zarathustra” by Richard Strauss, followed by the march from “The Gypsy Baron” to mark the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss. A special highlight is the specially composed fanfare on the occasion of the anniversary year “70 years Austrian Armed Forces“.

“Accompanied by light shows, special effects and acrobatic interludes, the audience can expect musical fireworks with hits from 70 years of music history”, according to a recent press release from the Austrian Armed Forces. Other highlights will include special guests such as soprano Celina Hubmann, artist Felix Klieser and a member of the Trapp family. The festive finale will be “The Great Austrian Tattoo” with an honorary company of the Guard Battalion.
