The Strasser family business presented the Strasser Ex 17, a multi-caliber sniper rifle for the government market, at Enforce Tac 2025. Militär Aktuell was shown the special features of the straight-pull bolt action rifle by Managing Director Mathias Strasser.
Strasser produces straight-pull bolt action rifles for hunting and sporting precision shooting. The Strasser Ex 17 is now offered purely as an official weapon. The system is “Made in Austria”. As a media partner of the Enforce Tac 2025, we took a close look at the sniper rifle (-> Enforce Tac 2025: Numerous companies from Austria).
Exchange system
Planning for the rifle began in 2017 and it has now undergone extensive testing, as Managing Director Mathias Strasser tells us in an interview. The most striking feature of the Strasser Ex 17 is certainly the straight pull system. Fast shot sequences with little movement on and behind the rifle and better target tracking are the main advantages of a straight pull system. With the Strasser it feels particularly smooth-running, while at the same time the moment of locking is clearly noticeable.
The Ex 17 offers a number of possibilities. The multi-caliber system is designed for .338 Lapua Magnum and .308 calibers. With the torque wrench supplied, the rifle can be converted within a short time, as CEO Mathias Strasser showed us.
This is possible because the barrel of the Strasser Ex 17 can be changed by loosening three screws. The barrel also features an indexing system with degree graduation, which ensures that the previously determined trajectory of the bullet is achieved with a certain degree of rotation even after the caliber change.
The magazine well can be replaced just as quickly and the trigger unit is also quickly removed. There is no need to worry about losing small parts in the field with this rifle: The important system screws cannot fall off thanks to a drop safety.
Detailed solutions
The Strasser Ex 17 is equipped with a firing pin safety. The direct trigger is designed for a precise shot and the trigger blade is adjustable. A large part of the smooth operation is due to the support lever, which is DLC-coated (Diamond-like Carbon).
The receiver has a steel Picatinny rail with a 20 MOA inclination, while the chassis is made of aluminum. The Strasser Ex 17 comes with an adjustable folding stock. The grip can be easily interchanged with that of AR15 models. Militär Aktuell will continue to report on this versatile government rifle.
