From 2026 at the latest, National Resilience Training (NWT) and military training will be offered as an optional module at Dutch vocational training institutions (MBO). The Ministry of Defence and 21 Regional Training Centers (ROC), where the security-related training “Veiligheid en Vakmanschap” (VeVa) is to be carried out, have agreed on this.
The NWT is a ten-week basic military training course that will be open to all vocational students in the future. Upon successful completion, participants acquire the status of reservist in the Dutch armed forces.
The focus of the training is on basic military skills, personal development and strengthening mental and physical resilience.
As NWT reservists, the graduates “contribute to social resilience and the military readiness of the Netherlands”, according to a recent press release. A comparable military minor module was also introduced for universities (HBO) in the spring.
