Starting this week, two infantry companies of the Austrian Armed Forces deployed as reserve forces and held in readiness in Austria Austrian Armed Forces to the Western Balkan states. As part of “Quick Response 24”, one company will travel from St. Michael in Upper Styria on a land march to the “EUFOR” area of operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The second company forms up in Linz-Hörsching and flies to the “KFOR” area of operations in Kosovo once formation is complete. The companies each have a strength of around 120 people.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “It is crucial that our reserve forces are not only kept ready on paper, but are actually available and can also be deployed to the operational area after a short preparation time. Through joint exercise scenarios, our soldiers can achieve a high degree of interoperability. This will also be the focus of the ‘Quick Response 2024’ exercise. After all, we have been a reliable partner for 25 years as part of AUTCON/KFOR in Kosovo and for 20 years as part of EUFOR/ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Especially in volatile times like the ones we are currently experiencing, it is important for us to ensure stability and security in the Western Balkan countries.” After arriving in the various operational areas, both companies receive the necessary equipment and supplies, in particular vehicles and equipment. The Kosovo company then deploys to Bosnia and Herzegovina on a land march. There they are brought together and undergo joint training. In the 37th week of the calendar, from September 9th, joint exercises will take place. https://militaeraktuell.at/rheinmetall-air-defence-zuerich-oliver-duerr/ The company from Upper Styria will then remain in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the company from Linz-Hörsching will return to Austria by air transport at the end of September.
