Several NATO partners are calling up weapon systems from Heckler & Koch from framework agreements and procuring additional systems in 2024. For example, the Spanish army, which is procuring additional pistols and assault rifles, as well as the Baltic states of Latvia and Lithuania, which are procuring 40-millimeter automatic grenade launchers and HK416 rifles respectively.
The Spanish Ministry of Defense has once again called up USP pistols from its framework agreement with Heckler & Koch. The 9-millimeter USP pistol is the standard personal backup pistol of the Spanish armed forces. In addition, Heckler & Koch was commissioned to supply further G36 assault rifles as part of a follow-up procurement. Since its introduction in 1999/2000, the G36 has been the standard rifle of the Spanish armed forces. The total value of the orders is around 14 million euros. Meanwhile, the Canadian RCMP – Royal Canadian Mounted Police – is continuing to increase its requirements for HK269 40-millimeter grenade launchers. Both countries are ordering additional G36 assault rifles from existing contracts for their armed forces, thereby expanding their standard assault rifle inventory. In addition, the Latvian Ministry of Defense is using its contract with Heckler & Koch to order additional 40-millimetre automatic grenade launchers and signal pistols. The Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior has also ordered additional HK416 rifles. In total, the order volume from the Baltic states amounts to around 8.4 million euros and is to be fully realized in 2024.
