Daimler Truck is pursuing a clear growth strategy in the development, production and sale of military commercial vehicles for logistics applications. With the introduction of new vehicle variants and the optimization of the existing sales and service network, the company intends to “respond even faster and with a broader range to the requirements of customers in the defence sector”, according to a recent press release.

In addition, “increased manufacturing expertise in our own plants” and the “expansion of partnerships in new technologies, development projects and sales” should help to “provide the right portfolio for customers”, according to Daimler Truck.

Within the Group as a whole, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks is the division for special vehicles and is responsible for the defense business as well as for the firefighting and disaster control segments, among others. At the production sites in Wörth am Rhein and Molsheim (France), Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks conducts its own research and development, implements individual customer requirements and produces large quantities for major orders.

From the high-terrain Unimog and Zetros to the Atego, Actros and Arocs truck series and heavy-duty tractor units, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks offers a wide range of complete vehicles in various versions from Euro III to Euro VI and can also implement special equipment on request. Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks has recently invested in the further development of the Zetros series and can now offer all versions from the two-axle 4×4 to the four-axle 8×8, with or without a protected cab, with single or twin tires in various emission standards. The manufacturer also sells the Unimog-based FGA chassis for protected bodies and supplies so-called CKD vehicle component sets, which can be used to build vehicles independently at local production sites in the customer’s country.

Franziska Cusumano, Head of Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks: “Step by step, we are expanding our business in the defense segment. We have developed a clear strategy for this under the motto ‘Grow and Invest’. The contracts concluded and vehicles handed over in large numbers last year underline the fact that our logistics solutions are tailored to the needs of various customers and their different deployment scenarios. At the IDEX trade fair in Abu Dhabi, we also want to live up to this claim with vehicles specially designed for use in this region.”
