The Armed Forces after the modernization of its 35-millimetre twin anti-aircraft guns at Rheinmetall Air Defence, the procurement of the Skyranger air defense system on new Pandur Evolution from General Dynamics European Land Systems-Steyr has been commissioned.
The order comprises 36 vehicles in a first tranche and a further nine in an option, as as part of the press conference on the procurement press conference on the procurement. In order to fit the turret, which was actually designed for the Boxer, onto the significantly lighter Pandur, the manufacturer has taken a variety of measures (including dispensing with the middle hatch) to significantly reduce weight – but this has not changed the basic concept.
In the following video, Moritz Vischer from Rheinmetall explains the features and functionality of the anti-aircraft turret in detail. Vischer also explains the differences to the Gepard system. You can also see a combat simulation with target transfer and hits. The interview was conducted at the ILA 2022.
