New contract for Raytheon: The US Department of Defense has announced that the company has been awarded a contract for the Low Rate Initial Production of LTAMDS air defence radars. Some of these radars are also to be supplied to the Polish armed forces. According to the US Department of Defense, the contract is worth around two billion euros, with the LTAMDS radars to be delivered by the end of November 2028.
The LTAMDS radars manufactured by Raytheon are being purchased by the Polish Ministry of Defence as part of the Wisla program. They will be used to equip the Polish armed forces with the Patriot air and missile defense system. The aim of the Polish armed forces is to build an integrated, multi-layered air and missile defense system with the new IBCS systems. In recent months, Poland has reacted to the Russian invasion of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine further major arms deals:
- In June a contract was signed with Saab for the delivery of the Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon worth more than one billion euros was signed.
- In April, the US government approved the sale of a large number of missiles from Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. These are 821 AGM-158B-2 JASSM cruise missiles, 232 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II missiles and 745 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs. The total value amounts to around 3.4 billion euros.
- At the Polish naval airfield in Gdynia in March, the first first 340 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft manufactured by Saab arrived.
- In November of the previous year, the Polish Polish government signed a contract with MBDA in November last year. Under this contract more than 1,000 CAMM-ER anti-aircraft guided missiles and more than 100 launchers for the Narew program are to be manufactured in Poland.
- Also in November Poland commissioned Systematic. Systematic’s SitaWare Frontline software will be installed in all M1A1 Abrams and M1A2 SEP V3 Abrams main battle tanks as well as in a number of support vehicles.
