The US aerospace company Bell Textron has been awarded a contract worth 422 million euros to supply 12 AH-1Z combat helicopters to the Nigerian government.
According to GlobalData’s Nigerian defense market analysis, the Nigerian Air Force urgently needs these attack helicopters to increase its firepower and thus strengthen the country’s counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency campaigns.
Delivery of the helicopters planned by 2028
The contract awarded by the US Naval Air Systems Command covers the production and delivery of the helicopters as well as the associated technical, program and logistical support. In addition, Bell Textron will also provide non-recurring technical services to address obsolescence issues. This is to ensure that the helicopters remain operational throughout their service life. Nigeria also procures new jet trainers
Most recently, Nigeria also announced the purchase of 24 M-346 Advanced Jet Trainers from the Italian manufacturer Leonardo in the fighter version FA (-> report).
