Apprentices wanted! The Austrian Armed Forces are currently looking for 100 interested young men and women throughout Austria for a wide range of apprenticeships starting in September 2021. The focus here is primarily on the federal states of Salzburg and Upper Austria: from catering, saddlery or electrician to aircraft technician or administrative assistant.
“I am delighted that so many young men and women want to become part of our army. The current figures show how important training is to young people. Almost 1,000 people applied for an apprenticeship with the Austrian Armed Forces during the first call for applications, which is a record number compared to the previous year. In difficult economic times, such as the current corona crisis, the armed forces are an important and crisis-proof employer,” says Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner with satisfaction. “In order to continue to secure jobs, we want to increase the number of apprenticeships by around ten percent in areas where necessary as part of an apprenticeship offensive. We look forward to welcoming many different personalities who want to become part of our army.” “The pandemic has plunged us into the deepest economic crisis since the Second World War, which is having an impact on the apprenticeship market. In times of crisis like these, it is important to invest specifically in combating the shortage of apprenticeships in urban regions. Investing in the training of skilled workers now will also have a longer-term growth-promoting effect. I would therefore like to thank Minister of Defense Klaudia Tanner for this initiative and the training opportunities it offers 100 young people,” said Minister of Labor Martin Kocher. There are currently a total of 260 apprentices in the Austrian Armed Forces nationwide, 81 women and 179 men. Apprenticeships with the largest proportion of young women are training to become an operational logistics clerk, aircraft technician or administrative assistant. Among the men, it is the apprenticeships for operational logistics clerk, aircraft technician and metal technology. Applicants take part in a theoretical apprenticeship test at two test centers of the Army Personnel Office in Vienna and Wels. After a successful test, interested candidates are invited to a practical test by their training center. After a positive application process, the apprentices will start their apprenticeship throughout Austria from September 2021. Committed apprentices are trained as skilled workers in 36 training centers throughout almost all of Austria. The Austrian Armed Forces are looking for apprentices in areas ranging from operational logistics, aircraft technology and electronics to gastronomy. The vacant apprenticeships were advertised on the job exchange of the Republic.
