The Swedish defense manufacturer Saab has received a civilian order for its Sabertooth autonomous underwater vehicle from Dubai-based underwater service provider PXGEO. The order is worth around 53 million euros and delivery will take place between 2023 and 2025.

The order comprises more than 20 Sabertooth vehicles, making it the largest Sabertooth order to date. The vehicles will be part of PXGEO’s so-called MantaRay solution for offshore seismic data acquisition and will be used for the deployment and recovery of equipment during seabed surveys. “Together with PXGEO, we are taking the step towards fully autonomous seismic data acquisition in the sea. This is a great success made possible by our joint expertise,” says Görgen Johansson, Head of Saab’s Dynamics business area.

@SaabThe Sabertooth from Saab is a powerful and versatile underwater vehicle. With its ability to operate at depths of up to 3,000 meters, it is ideal for seabed surveys. “We are pleased to bring the efficiency and reliability of the Sabertooth autonomous platform to the offshore seismic industry. The combined efforts of the PXGEO and Saab engineering team in developing MantaRay will revolutionize our industry and finally unlock the full potential of seabed node seismic for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” says Tony Bowman, CEO of PXGEO.
