Saab has received an order from the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense for the delivery of Saab’s Mobile Short Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) solution. The contract is worth around 110 million euros and deliveries will take place between 2025 and 2027.
This order is part of a framework agreement between Saab, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration (FMV) and the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, which enables Lithuania to place orders for Saab’s RBS 70 NG short-range mobile air defense solution.
The order includes mobile fire units, mobile radar units, a command and control (C2) system, a training package and the RBS 70 NG trainer. Saab will integrate MSHORAD into JLTV vehicles from the American manufacturer Oshkosh before delivery to the customer. “We are proud to continue supporting the air defense of Lithuania. MSHORAD is our answer to the new threats on the battlefield. Thanks to Saab’s extensive expertise, we are able to deliver everything from radar and fire units to our command and control system. The result is the most advanced and capable short-range mobile air defense solution on the market,” said Görgen Johansson, Head of Saab’s Dynamics business unit. https://militaeraktuell.at/bae-systems-erhaelt-millionenauftrag-us-navy/ The Lithuanian Minister of Defense, Laurynas Kasčiūnas, also commented: “MSHORAD is designed to ensure the protection of specific facilities, areas and critical infrastructure. The advantage of this system lies in its mobility, so it is an extremely necessary system that will significantly strengthen the capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Currently, we use the older generation RBS 70 air defense system and Bolide missiles.” MSHORAD is Saab’s mobile air defense solution. The system consists of the mobile radar unit based on the Giraffe 1X radar and the mobile fire unit based on the RBS 70 NG, all connected to Saab’s GBAD C2.
