A few weeks ago, the Lithuanian armed forces took delivery of numerous new Unimog U5000s with crew cabs from Daimler Trucks. The trucks were built by the Austrian vehicle body builder Empl.
The local procurement agency had agreed to extend the contract by 51 Unimog U5000s – as part of an agreement already concluded in 2022 with Daimler Trucks and NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) – was only signed in September.
“We are delighted to welcome these modern trucks to our troops in Kaunas,” said Minister of Defense Laurynas Kasčiūnas. “The Unimog U5000s are extremely popular with our soldiers. The Lithuanian armed forces currently have around 500 of these vehicles, but we need to continue equipping our troops.” The robust and all-terrain vehicles will be used for logistical supply, personnel transportation, medical evacuation and special personnel tasks. https://militaeraktuell.at/bae-systems-daenemark-schweden-kaufen-cv90/ Since 2021, over 170 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U5000s have been delivered under this amended contract. The total order for Lithuania is worth 47 million euros. The last vehicles in the current order are due to be delivered this year.
