Saab has received approval from the Indian authorities for 100 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) for the manufacture of the Carl-Gustaf shoulder-launched weapon system in India. According to Saab, this is an “important step towards establishing a new production facility in India”. The latest generation of the shoulder-launched Carl-Gustaf weapon is to be manufactured there.
Saab will also work with Indian suppliers, and the systems manufactured at the plant will therefore fully comply with the ‘Make in India’ requirement, according to Saab. “It is a great honor that as a global defense company, we have received approval for 100% foreign direct investment in India. This underlines our strong commitment to ‘Make in India’ and our excellent cooperation with the Indian Armed Forces,” says Görgen Johansson, Head of Saab’s Dynamics business area. Saab’s Carl Gustaf system has been in service with the Indian Army since 1976 and has long established itself as an important weapon for the Indian Armed Forces.
