A few days ago Saab announced the successful delivery of five next-generation Arthur artillery reconnaissance radars to the British Army. According to the press release, the five Arthur systems – called Taipan by the British Army – were handed over at the end of July and are now with the 5th Regiment of the Royal Artillery.
The new Arthur radar provides a Deep Find Weapon Locating Radar capability for the future. In the British Army, Taipan replaces the last generation Arthur system with Mamba. Commenting on the new system, Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Gregory KBE CB, Master Gunner St James’s Park, said: “Saab is our key partner for both Mamba and Taipan and the service it has provided and continues to provide to our Armed Forces is extremely impressive. Mamba has more than proven its worth and Taipan brings a further enhancement of capability.” https://militaeraktuell.at/das-bundesheer-beschaeftigt-auch-227-tiere/ Mamba is designed to provide the British Army with rapid deployment, high operational mobility and precision counter-battery operations by locating a greater number of targets at further ranges with reduced electronic warfare signatures. In addition to the UK, Arthur is also deployed in twelve other countries, including six NATO-countries and South Korea. “We are very proud to support the British Army with our state-of-the-art Taipan systems. Our relationship with the Army and the Arthur system is based on years of experience spanning operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Saab team looks forward to continuing to support the UK as it becomes the first user of the new current and next generation Arthur systems,” said Andy Fraser, Group Managing Director of Saab UK.
