Today sees the start of “Recon Summit 23”, a major joint exercise between the Austrian Armed Forces and the blue light organizations. The police, Red Cross and fire department will be practicing a wide range of tasks together with the army this week.
The exercise is based on an international conference called “Recon Summit 23” in Linz. Politicians and diplomats from all over the world arrive at Linz Airport and take part in the conference in the provincial capital. The Upper Austrian State Police Directorate has implemented extensive security measures at the airport, the hotels and the conference venue. A security police operation by the Austrian Armed Forces has been called in to provide support around security facilities. The military command of Upper Austria is deploying the mobilized Jägerbataillon Oberösterreich for this purpose. Military Commander Brigadier Dieter Muhr is looking forward to the exercise: “Everything is well prepared and the scenario provides good training opportunities for all blue light organizations. The importance of the exercise is also underlined by the fact that the Chief of the General Staff, General Rudolf Striedinger, is coming to supervise the exercise.” Around 600 soldiers, 70 vehicles, including five Pandur armored personnel carrierswill be on the move in the central region of Upper Austria. The soldiers will secure objects of protection, such as the Linz-Hörsching airport.
