The Italian company Leonardo delivered the first of two C-27J Next Generation aircraft to the Slovenian Ministry of Defense a few days ago, which were ordered as part of the Italian-Slovenian intergovernmental agreement (G2G) signed in November 2021.
The aircraft features advanced avionics with a glass cockpit with five multifunction color screens, a radar for tactical transport missions, communication systems, a satellite system, ballistic protection and winglets that improve aerodynamic performance. Within the framework of the G2G agreement, Leonardo and the Directorate of Air Armament and Airworthiness of the General Secretariat of Defense/National Armaments Directorate have signed two contracts in the past two yearseach covering one aircraft as well as logistics and training services. The Slovenian Ministry of Defense’s decision for the C-27J covers a wide range of operational requirements in terms of transport and projection capabilities for international missions. https://militaeraktuell.at/erweiterte-selbst-und-kameradenhilfe/ In addition, the aircraft supports the national community in rescue and disaster relief operations. As part of the Slovenian program, the C-27J will also be used for firefighting. For this purpose, the C-27J is equipped with the pallet-supported MAFFS II (Modular Airborne Fire-Fighting System) from United Aeronautical Corporation. To meet operator requirements, the aircraft’s modular architecture allows for the integration of air-to-air refueling, self-protection, secure communications and ballistic protection systems to transport equipment, light vehicles and personnel. Thanks to its versatility, the C-27J can also be quickly converted into the configuration required for defense and civil protection missions using kits and roll-on/roll-off mission systems.
