A few days ago, the military aviation technology expert, Colonel Hermann Horst Hasenhütl, received a special honor: he was awarded the “Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria”, which is awarded by the Federal President for outstanding achievements. The award was presented to him by the Chief of the General Staff, General Robert Brieger, on his behalf.

“I feel particularly honored to have received this prestigious federal award. This award represents a high appreciation of my work as a militia expert in military aviation technology and I am happy to continue to be available with my expertise and my extensive network,” says Hasenhütl. After his leave of absence as Deputy Commander of the Army Logistics School, Colonel Hasenhütl moved to Austro Control GmbH in 2006 as Director of Flight Operations and Flight Technology. In 2017, he was assigned to the Ministry of Defense as a militia expert for military aviation technology. Here he contributed his extensive expertise in civil-military cooperation in the field of aircraft airworthiness and the certification of aircraft maintenance organizations. His experience could thus be used extensively in the aircraft department and synergies gained for the armed forces. With the procurement of the Tracker reconnaissance drones, the ministry broke new ground in terms of the certification and operation of unmanned aircraft. As head of department at Austro Control, Hasenhütl played a prominent role in drafting the European Union regulations for the operation of such devices. The professional experience and contacts he gained in the process were put to extensive use in drawing up the necessary military guidelines. In this context, he also supported the Air Force and Air Defense School at symposia with guest lectures on the subject of “Use and operation of civilian unmanned aerial vehicles”. Due to his above-average commitment as a military expert, his professionalism and his comprehensive and valuable contribution to the improvement of civil-military cooperation in the field of aviation, Obst (ret.) Hasenhütl was awarded this federal distinction.
