The Belgian weapons company FN Herstal continues to improve its remote-controlled weapon station deFNder Medium. It can now also accommodate the M230LF 30 millimeter Bushmaster Chain Gun from Northrop Grumman – the official presentation took place during Eurosatory last week in Paris.

Thanks to its modular architecture, the remote-controlled turret can be adapted for a very wide range of applications, such as emplacements, manned or unmanned ground vehicles and naval vessels. In addition to the Northrop Grumman M230LF 30×113 millimeter cannon, the deFNder Medium weapon station can be equipped with FN machine guns – including the rapid-firing (1,100 rounds/minute) .50 Cal (12.7×99 millimeter NATO) FN M3R – or 40 millimeter HV AGL. The deFNder Medium with Northrop Grumman’s 30-millimeter cannon is exceptionally flat and light compared to other similar systems, standing less than 80 centimeters tall and weighing around 300 kilograms.

The larger caliber gun offers a longer range (effectively up to 2,000 meters) and greater effectiveness against a variety of targets such as lightly armored vehicles and many manned or unmanned aerial threats.
