Diehl Defense has signed a letter of intent with Northrop Grumman. This involves a study to evaluate the integration capability of the ground-based air defense system Iris-T SLM from Diehl Defence in the Integrated Battle Command Systems (IBCS) from Northrop Grumman. In addition, possible joint applications in Germany and other European countries are to be examined.
IBCS, a program successfully fielded in the U.S. Army, combines various sensors and effectors into a command and control system to create a true integrated network and enable the exchange of fire control data between all available elements on the battlefield. https://militaeraktuell.at/soldaten-des-jaegerbataillons-25-schiessen-scharf/ It can also provide command post functionality for various levels of command. It will be used in Patriot air defense systems around the world. The potential integration of IBCS into Diehl Defence’s GBAD systems would provide European users with compatibility with other ground-based air defense systems. The integration would also support the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) (Austria wants to become a member) by improving interoperability between the different capabilities of the various nations. Torsten Cook, Senior Vice President of the Ground Air Defense Product Line at Diehl Defence and Rebecca Torzone, Vice President and General Manager Global Battle Management and Readiness Division at Northrop Grumman, signed the Memorandum of Understanding in Berlin.
During the ceremony, Torsten Cook emphasized: “We are excited about this partnership, which offers our Iris-T SLM customers new capabilities such as the ability to use multiple GBAD systems like Iris-T SLM and Patriot in parallel, improving interoperability and increasing the combat value of deployed systems.” Rebecca Torzone added: “Today marks a pivotal moment in our drive to advance defense capabilities together with German industry. By joining forces with Diehl Defence, we are embarking on a joint journey to shape the future of integrated air defense.”
