The German Navy receives the first 600 Rolling Airframe Missiles Block 2B for its frigates. The RAM missiles belong to the latest generation and support the self-defense of the ships.

The German Armaments Liaison Office in the USA and Canada, or DtVStRü for short, was responsible for this procurement contract. It is a subordinate office of the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support. Following the recent parliamentary approval, the contract for the first 600 RAM Block 2B was signed in Washington at the end of October. With a volume of more than half a billion euros, this is one of the highest-volume contracts in the almost 50 years of German-American armaments cooperation. The bilateral Rolling Airframe Missile Program Office (RAMPO) of DtVStRü, based in Arlington, Virginia, USA, was in charge of the negotiations. https://militaeraktuell.at/bundeswehr-erprobt-hochenergie-laserwaffe/ As a programmatic specialty, the agreement was signed in accordance with US law. The contracting parties are the responsible US contracting authority, the Naval Sea Systems Command, and the main contractor, RAM System GmbH. The bundling of German and American requirements also reduces costs. With RAM Block 2B, both the German and the US naval forces will receive the most modern missiles currently available. The new infrared seeker, for example, enables the detection of targets with low infrared signatures. A missile-to-missile data link ensures optimized coordination of the missiles when defending against attacking missiles. The first missiles in their latest development stage will be delivered to the German Navy from the fourth quarter of 2024 and should be completed in stages by 2029.
