Diehl Defense has received an order from Latvia for its Iris-T SLM medium-range air defense system. The order is based on a framework agreementwhich was signed on September 11 in Röthenbach between Diehl Defence, Estonia and Latvia. The contract was signed by Torsten Cook (Senior Vice President Product Area at Diehl Defence) and Martins Paskevics (Undersecretary of State for Logistics at the Latvian Ministry of Defense).

According to the German company, it will provide the country with “a multi-layered air defense system”. This will integrate the existing short-range air defense capabilities and use a mix of sensors. According to the Latvian Ministry of Defense, the first deliveries of the combat-proven system are scheduled for 2026 at a cost of 600 million euros. “We are proud to provide Latvia with this capability, to contribute to the protection of its population and thus strengthen the defense capability of the NATO alliance,” said Diehl Defence in an initial statement.
