How BAE Systems announced that the company has been awarded a contract worth almost 450 million euros for the continued production of M109A7 self-propelled howitzers and M992A3 ammunition carriers for the US Army received. Following the initial order in 2017 and a further order in order in February of this year – this is already the third contract for the two systems. The contract award covers production and delivery between August 2025 and July 2026.

The M109A7 self-propelled howitzer provides reliable, evolving capabilities for the Army’s Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT), ensuring soldiers have modern artillery capabilities that are survivable, maintainable, proven and responsive on the battlefield. The vehicle is one of the lightest SPH tracked systems and features an adaptable chassis and next-generation technology. https://militaeraktuell.at/mbda-grossbritannien-verlaengern-zusammenarbeit/ “We are focused on producing and fielding modern artillery capabilities that offer the Army more than others in terms of range, accuracy and lethality,” said Dan Furber, director of ground vehicle production for BAE Systems’ Combat Mission Systems business. “This contract ensures that the ABCT will continue to operate one of the most survivable indirect fire support systems for years to come.” The M109A7 is a low-risk option for future upgrades, reducing logistical complexity and lowering maintenance costs as it is common to all ABCT formations. The commonality of the M109A7 also benefits allied nations already fielding U.S. military systems by maintaining interoperability through support, maneuver and transport capabilities. The M109A7 has been in full production since 2020, with this order bringing the total contract value to over €2.7 billion.
