After the storms, the Austrian Armed Forces since Sunday morning in Styria and Burgenland in assistance operations (-> current reports from assistance operations) to help the local emergency services with the clean-up and reconstruction work.

34 soldiers are currently deployed in Styria. Once the reconnaissance has been completed, the disaster response platoon will build two bridges and clear blockages. The main focus of the operation is in the Hartberg and Grafendorf area. Further reconnaissance is constantly being carried out.

Further action is coordinated by the task force in Oberwart.

In Burgenland, 110 soldiers from Jägerbataillon 19 are ready to carry out evacuation work and clear basements of mud and water. The main focus of the operation is in the Unterschützen area.

“The images we have seen in the affected areas are terrible and it is therefore all the more important that our emergency services are on the ground quickly to help people. The current situation will continue to be closely monitored and additional forces and resources will be mobilized if necessary. The Armed Forces are prepared to remain deployed for as long as necessary to deal with the consequences of the storm disaster,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.
