In return for Turkey’s approval of Sweden’s accession to NATO, the US government has reportedly as reported a few days ago gave the green light for the export of up to 40 new F-16 fighter jets and 79 F-16V upgrade kits for older Turkish Air Force F-16s. Ankara had previously approved the Eurofighter as an alternative to the desired F-16s – but this scenario does not seem to be off the table despite the F-16 agreement.
According to a report by the Reuters news agency, there is still interest in the Eurofighter in Turkey, and German support for a corresponding deal is expected if the worst comes to the worst. https://militaeraktuell.at/wanted-neuer-advanced-jet-trainer-gesucht/ The German government only recently abandoned its long-held reservations about exporting Eurofighters to Saudi Arabiaalso under pressure from its Eurofighter partner states Great Britain and Spain. According to media reports, the export approval is to include 48 of the latest generation of aircraft, but according to Militär Aktuell information, it is even up to 54 aircraft. In recent years, Berlin has only occasionally approved arms exports to NATO partner Turkey.
