Diehl Defense and the South Korean fighter aircraft manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) have now signed a letter of intent for closer cooperation. The aim is to intensify integration and marketing activities with a view to the potential of Iris-T for the FA-50 and KF-21 aircraft.
The aim is to integrate the Iris-T missile into the FA-50/T-50 and KF-21 Block II aircraft, according to a recent press release from the German company. “This confirms the intention of both companies to explore the potential for cooperation, as already announced in an agreement signed at the ADEX 2021 trade fair.” The MoU signed by Harald Buschek, Chief Program Officer and member of the Diehl Defence Executive Board, and KAI CEO Kang Goo-Young also includes the cooperation of working groups in the field of marketing for KAI aircraft equipped with Diehl Defence missiles. In addition, both companies have agreed to explore the possibility of adapting or further developing Diehl Defence missile systems into current Korean aircraft programs. Diehl Defence and KAI have been working together for several years. The roots of this lie in 2017 with the start of the integration of IRIS-T into the KF-21 Block I fighter aircraft.
