At a recent ceremony at the Vienna Military Command in the Garrison Casino in the Maria Theresa Barracks, military service decorations were awarded and officers and non-commissioned officers from the militia and reserve ranks were promoted and discharged from compulsory military service.
New procurements under the motto “Mission Forward”
In his speech, Colonel Leopold Schieder, Deputy Military Commander of Vienna, gave an insight into the projects and new procurements initiated under the motto “Mission Forward”. The Vienna Military Command celebrated its 60th anniversary this year. Colonel Schieder reflected on the missions and events carried out in the anniversary year and gave a preview of future projects. Around 160 soldiers are currently protecting objects in the federal capital as part of an assistance mission. In December a new building in the Van Swieten barracks in Vienna’s Floridsdorf district was handed over to the position committee. At the end of January, it is planned to start operations at the new location. It’s time to say “thank you”
“When we say goodbye to soldiers from compulsory military service today, it’s time to say ‘thank you’ for the time they have given to the Austrian Armed Forces. They have taken on a function and thus served the Republic and the population. I would like to express my appreciation to all those who receive a military service medal or are promoted today, because this award is also associated with achievement. I hope that you will remain actively involved in the armed forces,” said Colonel Leopold Schieder. After the highlight of the ceremony, the awarding of the decrees, Major General Peter Fender expressed his thanks on behalf of all those honored. Major General Fender was Head of the International Law Department at the Federal Ministry of Defense. He is also President of the Lower Austrian Officers’ Association and Secretary General of the “Conscription” platform.
