Last week, the cadre presence soldiers of Klagenfurt’s Jäger Battalion 25 completed their “troop tactical training” at the Allentsteig military training area.
As the soldiers are registered as an Austrian infantry battalion for deployments abroad, the so-called “Level 2 self-evaluation” is on the duty schedule this week. Under the direction of the command of the 7th Jäger Brigade, internationally certified evaluators from the Austrian Armed Forces are using checklists in accordance with NATO standards to check whether the Klagenfurt airborne battalion is ready for worldwide deployments. The day before yesterday, the soldiers of Jäger Battalion 25, who are reinforced by a cadre presence company from Jäger Battalion 19 in Güssing, were ordered to search the village of Steinbach. Reconnaissance had revealed that individual members of the fictitious “Redland Protection Corps” had gone into hiding in the Halbertschlag district. To prevent these people from recruiting further members or influencing the “Redland population” of Steinbach, the soldiers searched the village, arrested enemy actors and handed them over to the relevant police forces.
The second task the soldiers had to master was to monitor an “Area of Responsibility” in the Allentsteig area. The main focus was on patrolling and setting up temporary checkpoints. Various scenarios, such as a traffic accident with several seriously injured soldiers and civilians as well as clearing, maintaining and monitoring marching routes, were rehearsed by the exercise management. Following the deployment order from the 7th Jägerbrigade, the soldiers moved into their staging area in the Allwanger Forest during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday and took possession of the Steinbach local combat facility. The exercise will continue until this afternoon. At the end of the exercise, another attack is planned in the Felsenberg area in order to re-establish a safe environment to protect the population.
