The independently structured Jäger Company Vienna 13 “Hietzing” – strength: around 200 militia soldiers, established in 2016 and consisting of a command and supply element, a sniper group and five Jäger platoons – trained in Vienna. Most likely deployment scenario: protection of “critical infrastructure” in the federal capital.

“In the event of deployment, we would increasingly take on property protection measures in our namesake district. If necessary, however, we can also be deployed for other tasks in Austria at any time,” says Deputy Company Commander Lieutenant Andreas Dallinger. The command responsible for mobilizing the Hietzing Jäger Company is the Guard, while the Vienna Military Command is responsible for command in the event of activation. “The cooperation works extremely well. Thanks to the close partnership, current procedures can be implemented quickly. The organization in the area of training planning and deployment preparation is optimal and flawless.”

At the company command post: briefing on the current assistance mission.

Last week, a special weapons exercise was held in the Maria Theresien barracks for relevant key personnel, company and platoon commanders as well as supply elements. The focus was on preparing for a possible assistance mission. After a briefing on the organizational basics, they moved to northern Lower Austria. A guard company is currently supporting the authorities in controlling the current coronavirus entry regulations at the national border. During a practical briefing, the soldiers were given an insight into the ongoing assistance mission and were informed about mission-specific details by the deployed personnel at company and platoon level directly at the border crossing. “Valuable practical knowledge was gained through the exchange of experiences with the deployed commanders. The knowledge gained contributes to the operational readiness of the company and will be incorporated into future training projects,” summarized Lieutenant Dallinger.
