GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors, recently announced that the US Army has decided on the series production of the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV). In June 2020, GM Defense was awarded the contract to develop the lightweight and maneuverable all-terrain troop carrier to transport an infantry unit of nine soldiers and their equipment. The contract at the time was worth 198 million euros.
Steve duMont, President of GM Defense, proudly stated, “Achieving the ISV Full Rate Production decision reinforces our credibility and underscores the success of our manufacturing processes. By working closely with our customer, we have delivered more than 300 vehicles to the U.S. Army, many of which have already been delivered to the Army’s 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions.” https://militaeraktuell.at/thales-erhaelt-milliarden-auftrag-der-royal-navy/ The ISV is largely based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 midsize truck architecture and utilizes 90 percent off-the-shelf parts, including racing components from Chevrolet Performance. Weighing in at 2.2 tons, the ISV is light enough to be loaded by a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. At the same time, the vehicle is compact enough to fit into a CH-47 Chinook helicopter for transportation. Due to the high percentage of off-the-shelf parts in the vehicle, different variants can be configured quickly and easily so that the ISV can be used for different missions. The range of possible missions for the ISV includes fire support, command and control, electronic warfare, defense against unmanned aerial systems, reconnaissance and logistics, and casualty evacuation.
