BAE Systems was awarded a contract worth 742 million euros to continue production of the Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV) for the US Army, with options for a potential total contract value of 1.5 billion euros.

This order marks the AMPV program’s transition to series production, making it the first newly designed and built US Army tracked vehicle to reach this production stage in three decades. The AMPV replaces the Vietnam War-era M113 vehicle fleet and provides the Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) with critical improvements in survivability, mobility and interoperability. The AMPV program is one of the US Army’s most important vehicle modernization programs. https://militaeraktuell.at/26665-2/ The AMPV family includes several operational vehicles:

  • An all-purpose vehicle that can be used to carry out maintenance work, for example, anywhere in the combat zone.
  • A mortar carrier that provides rapid support with heavy mortar fire.
  • A medical evacuation vehicle that enables the treatment or evacuation of injured persons at the site of injury.
  • A medical treatment vehicle, also known as an “operating theater on rails”, which can be used to provide life-sustaining care,
  • and an incident command vehicle that facilitates digital incident command by providing command, control and communication capabilities.
