Upper Austria’s military commander, Brigadier Dieter Muhr, announced yesterday at a press conference that after years of discussions, the Supplementary Department with the Stellungsstraße will remain in Linz, thus securing the location of the Garnisonstraße office building.

Brigadier Muhr: “With this location, Upper Austrian conscripts remain in our care. The state of Upper Austria and the city of Linz are behind the position here in Garnisonstraße.” Muhr also explained that the Garnisonstraße office building is the only remaining location for the Austrian Armed Forces in the provincial capital of Linz. The barracks are used to support and supply assistance forces and the Treffling military training area and to provide emergency forces and staff for major events; for example, NBC units were kept there during the EU Council Presidency. The soldiers deployed at the Design Center test station are currently being supplied from here. During the press conference, Colonel Alois Arnreiter was also introduced as the new Head of the Supplementary Department. Colonel Arnreiter explained that over the next three years around ten million euros will be invested in the renovation and new construction of a multi-purpose building and sports facilities. The Army Personnel Office currently located in Wels will move into the new premises in the Garnisonstraße office building by the end of 2023. “This means that all personnel recruiting offices will be united here,” said Arnreiter. In preparation for a possible blackout scenario, the office building was also recently subjected to a stress test. The results are now being analyzed and then implemented. Arnreiter’s professional career took him to Salzburg in 1986 as a pioneer officer. In 2000, he moved to the 4th Armored Infantry Brigade in Linz/Ebelsberg as a logistics officer before being transferred to the Upper Austrian Military Command in 2012. He also worked there as a logistics officer until 2015, when he was assigned to the Garnisonstraße office building as deputy head of the supplementary department and deputy barracks commander. Since August 1, he has now been head of the supplementary department and barracks commander in the Garnisonstraße office building.
