Russia announced the use of the new “Molniya-2” FPV drone via RIA-Novosti this week. A target in the Kharkiv oblast was attacked. The main feature of the modernized Molniya (-> The new Russian plywood “Blitz”) is still its simplicity.
The aluminum bar plywood structure continues to form the basis of the design. The plastic covering over the fuselage is new and the drive concept is also new: instead of an electric motor at the nose, there are now two electric motors with propellers in nacelles under the wings.
The new version of the plywood drone known as the “Blitz” is likely to have increased its performance somewhat. The weight of the warhead is stated by the Russian side to be between five and seven kilograms, with a range of up to 40 kilometers.
The Russian source states that the drone is equipped with Chinese electronics. The fixed-wing drone is controlled using FPV goggles. The use of a “repeater” – i.e. a flying radio relay station – is likely given the distance mentioned.
