The Hunting Command recently celebrated a milestone anniversary. Many national and international guests of honor were welcomed in Wiener Neustadt. At the top, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner congratulated the Hunting Command on its 60th anniversary.
“The Jagdkommando, the elite unit of the Austrian Armed Forces, has specially selected, trained and equipped soldiers. The extremely diverse tasks at home and abroad require the highest level of mental and physical performance. The ability to solve problems unconventionally and creatively is a fundamental virtue of all members of the Hunting Command. The association will present itself at various stations during an “open day”. In 1963, the order was given to conduct the first Jagdkommando basic course and the Jagdkommando was set up as a company for special operations. Today, the Jagdkommando is the most operationally experienced unit in the Austrian Armed Forces. The aim of the newly launched training at the time was to continue the fight in enemy-occupied territory with regular forces, the so-called Jagdkommando.
The tasks of the Jagdkommando are special reconnaissance to obtain high-quality information, commando operations – the Jagdkommando is the anti-terrorist unit of the Austrian Armed Forces, military support in the training of soldiers, first response force of the Austrian Armed Forces in areas of interest, combat search and rescue, military evacuation operations and the deployment of consular support teams. The Fighter Command has been able to demonstrate these capabilities in recent years in particular. Austrian citizens were evacuated in Kabul in 2021. They have also been supporting the embassy in Kiev since February last year. “The Fighter Command is always on hand where no one else dares to go and thus ensures the protection of Austrians all over the world,” says Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner. “Numquam retro – never go back”.
