The Armed Forces is looking for interested young men and women throughout Austria for a wide range of apprenticeships. The diverse training opportunities range from weapons mechanics, operational logistics and IT technology to administrative assistance. Apprentices are being sought throughout Austria, with a particular focus this year on the federal states of Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Vienna.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner commented: “The Austrian Armed Forces is one of the largest federal employers and currently offers 41 different apprenticeships in more than 40 training positions throughout Austria. The apprentices learn and work in an armed forces that is currently on the upswing with the highest budget in history. We need qualified specialists to meet the challenges of the future. I look forward to welcoming all interested individuals who want to become part of the Armed Forces.”

Interested individuals have the opportunity to train in a wide range of areas with the Austrian Armed Forces, including electronics, saddlery, professional photography and metalworking. There is also the opportunity to learn special apprenticeships. In addition to aircraft technicians in an aircraft hangar, the army is also looking for apprentices to learn the trade of working with military equipment.

The Austrian Armed Forces currently have 271 apprentices in training. Of these, 102 are women and 169 are men. The majority of young women are doing an apprenticeship as an administrative assistant, aircraft technician or company logistics clerk. Among the men, the most common apprenticeships are in operational logistics clerk, aircraft technician and electronics technician.

Applicants take part in a theoretical apprenticeship test at two test centers of the Army Personnel Office in Vienna and Wels. After a successful test, the candidates are invited to a practical test by the training center for the apprenticeship. After a positive application process, the apprentices start their apprenticeship with the Austrian Armed Forces.
