The US Army has ordered more than 7,000 RT-2129 Combat Net Radios (CNR) from Thales, which are based on IMBITR (Improved Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio) technology. The CNRs enable interoperability with legacy waveforms and the addition of improved waveforms.
As a fully software-defined communications solution, the Thales CNR ensures interoperability primarily with the legacy SINCGARS (Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System) waveform and, as previously mentioned, allows the Army to quickly add enhanced waveforms to meet evolving requirements. The CNR builds on the combat-proven AN/PRC-148 family of handheld radios and provides the Army with a modern tactical radio solution. “The flexible, software-defined solution enables the Army to seamlessly replace the legacy RT-1523 fleet of mounted and dismounted radios,” according to a recent press release. https://militaeraktuell.at/die-slowakei-baut-sich-ihren-eigenen-sky-shield/ Thales Defense and Security CEO Mike Sheehan said: “The CNR is designed to integrate easily into the Army’s integrated tactical network and operate reliably in the most extreme conditions.” Under this new contract, Thales will deliver more than 7,000 RT-2129 Tactical Secure Voice Crypto Interoperability Standard (TSVCIS) compliant radios. To date, Thales has already delivered more than 8,100 CNRs to the US Army.
