Two recent surveys show that the importance of the armed forces among the population has risen significantly. In a daily order, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner therefore praises the achievements of the red-white-red armed forces over the past year and a half.

“The past one and a half years have been very demanding for the Austrian Armed Forces. In addition to the standard tasks and the already ongoing operations at home and abroad, the the Covid-19 pandemic, the numerous assistance missions and support services in the fight against the virus had to be managed. As the Austrian Armed Forces, we helped and continue to help throughout Austria with border controls, contact tracing, drive-ins and other test stations for sample collection and wherever else you are needed in the fight against the coronavirus. We have successfully participated in the nationwide testing in the individual federal states and have set up several strategic ‘Covid-19 warehouses’ as emergency supplies with protective equipment and other necessary medical devices,” said the Minister of Defence. https://militaeraktuell.at/einblicke-in-den-6×6-von-patria/ Tanner continued: “And we are also contributing our logistics expertise to the vaccinations – both in planning and organization. We were there when the first vaccines arrived in Austria and provide support wherever we are needed. At peak times, more than 8,000 soldiers and civilian staff were deployed at home and abroad.” And the population also appreciates this – as confirmed by two recent surveys: firstly, a study by renowned political scientist Peter Hajek. He came to the conclusion that the importance of the Austrian Armed Forces has increased significantly since the Covid-19 crisis and that the population perceives the armed forces as an active part in the fight against the pandemic. According to the survey, almost 80% of the population rate the Austrian Armed Forces’ handling of the coronavirus crisis as very good or good. And 67% have great confidence in the armed forces. This survey also revealed that the Austrian Armed Forces were most visible during the pandemic on the test routes, at the borders and on the vaccination routes. 43 percent of the population visited the test and vaccination routes organized and supervised by the military. 97 percent of these visitors stated that they were very well or well looked after by the armed forces.

“However, the results also show that old clichés simply no longer apply and that our army is finally being given the image it really deserves.

Secondly, there is a survey by the market research institute OGM, which looked at the population’s trust in the institutions in Austria. The Austrian Armed Forces recorded the largest increase with 18 points. This puts the army in fifth place in the overall ranking of the 31 institutions listed. “Above all, institutions that provide stability, protection, help and security have gained enormous trust among the population,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner. “I would like to thank all soldiers and civilian staff who have worked tirelessly in this difficult crisis and continue to do so. I am very proud of our soldiers and of the resilience and performance of our company.

Our personal performance has contributed to the fact that we were rated so highly by the public. However, the results also show that old clichés simply no longer apply and that our army is finally getting the image it really deserves.”
