Steyr Arms prevails against strong competition in the tender for the new grenade launcher for the German armed forces won the tender.

For the first time in the company’s recent history, Steyr Arms was able to successfully participate in a German Bundeswehr tender. The extraordinarily robust and precise GL-40 launcher (caliber 40x46LV) was originally developed as an attachment for the world-famous Steyr AUG assault rifle for infantry, but can also be used as a stand-alone. It is already in use internationally and will now also accompany soldiers of the German Bundeswehr on operations in the future.

Technical highlights
Thanks to its compact design and low weight, the mounting and sub-mounting device can be mounted and used on various assault rifles. The modular, flexible design enables easy maintenance and interchangeability of all components.

The Steyr GL 40 is characterized by its simple operation. A quick change from an under-mounted device to a “stand-alone” grenade launcher is possible without special tools during operation.

In addition to the in-house Steyr ladder sight, various aiming and sighting devices can be attached via Picatinny rails at 9, 12 and 3 o’clock. The Steyr GL 40 barrel, which is cold forged at Steyr Arms, guarantees a long service life and can be swung out to the side for loading. All 40×46 LV grenades can be loaded and fired.

A “double action only” trigger system with two position safety catches combined with an internal drop safety and an additional safety catch that blocks the trigger when not mounted are a guarantee for active and passive safety with unrestricted usability at the same time. The surfaces of all steel parts are treated with the in-house Mannox process and protected against corrosion and abrasion.

The AR15-compatible buttstock developed by Steyr Arms is designed for heavy loads and can be adjusted to the firing length for use in a flash.
The grip (AR15-compatible) has a non-slip feel with the option of ergonomic adjustment to the size of the soldier’s hand by changing the grip back and side inlays.
