Europe’s youngest state, Kosovo, has close ties with Austria: MEP Lukas Mandl (ÖVP) explains why this is the case in the new anthology he has edited entitled “Kosovo and the EU – state of play”.
The book is published on the occasion of the national holiday of the Republic of Kosovo on February 17 and is particularly topical in these weeks due to the Kosovan parliamentary elections. The European Parliament is also adopting its Kosovo report these days.
The population of Kosovar origin in Austria is growing. The Austrian Armed Forces have been making an invaluable contribution to ensuring stability since 1999. This foreign deployment of the Austrian Armed Forces is one of the most highly regarded internationally. In addition, an above-average number of investments in Kosovo come from Austria. Many domestic companies rely on Kosovan workers. Kosovo has the youngest population in Europe, and nowhere else is the average age so low. The volume contains more than 300 pages of cross-party contributions from renowned authors such as Erhard Busek, Johannes Hahn, Ulrike Lunacek, Franz Schausberger, Wolfgang Sobotka and MEPs Andreas Schieder and Thomas Waitz. Personalities from Austria, Kosovo and other European countries from various fields – from culture to the military – comment on the urgent and important issues in the Kosovo context. Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz is one of the foreword editors. The articles are published in German and English as well as in the official languages of the Republic of Kosovo – Albanian and Serbian. Content and current key facts on the publication of the book:
