As announced, the German Bundeswehr has disbanded the second company of the elite Special Forces Command (KSK).

As the armed forces announced on Thursday, this step was formally taken with effect from August 1 with a disbandment roll call at the KSK base in the Graf-Zeppelin barracks in Calw in Baden-Württemberg. The soldiers will either be transferred to other areas of the KSK or to other units.

The disbandment is one of a total of 60 individual measures to deal with extremist and other incidents, with which Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer is reacting to right-wing extremist incidents in the troops. In an investigation report, the elite unit had previously been found to have a “toxic leadership style” in some areas. The second company was considered to be the starting point for right-wing activities. The elite force is now to be given until October 31 to prove itself. If it fails to do so, it could be disbanded completely.
