The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) commissioned Schiebel to deploy its Camcopter S-100 unmanned aerial system in La Manche and the southern part of the North Sea to support the Belgian and French maritime authorities in a variety of coastguard tasks, including emissions monitoring.
The S-100 was stationed at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Gris-Nez in the French department of Pas-de-Calais and supported both participating countries on request within an airspace validated by the Civil Aviation Authority, depending on the areas overflown. The UAS supported maritime safety, search and rescue, maritime surveillance, environmental protection and assisted in the event of maritime accidents and disasters. https://militaeraktuell.at/hohe-zustimmungsraten-zur-airpower/ The operational S-100 carried out these tasks, equipped with multiple sensors, a Trakka TC-300 EO/IR sensor, an Explicit Mini Sniffer for emission monitoring, a Becker Avionics BD406 Emergency Beacon Locator, an Automatic Identification System (AIS) receiver and a Mode-S transponder ADSB out. “We have been supporting EMSA since 2018,” says Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group. “The Camcopter has also helped with several search and rescue missions, saving valuable response time and allowing large areas to be scanned quickly and efficiently, even for very small objects and anomalies at sea.”
