A handover of command took place at the Army Logistics Center Salzburg on Monday. Due to the current Covid-19 situation and the current lockdown, the handover of command was carried out as a virtual event via a livestream – a first for the Austrian Armed Forces in line with the applicable safety regulations.

At the “virtual ceremony”, leadership responsibility for the Salzburg Army Logistics Center was handed over from the long-serving commander, Colonel Hermann Tischler, to his successor, Colonel Gisbert Wallner. The head of Directorate 4, Major General Andreas Pernsteiner, the commanders of the army logistics centers and the commander of Supply Regiment 1 were connected via livestream. The Army Logistics Center was established on April 1, 2005 and is responsible for supplying the Austrian Armed Forces with all types of supplies at home and abroad and provides system support for the Husar protected multi-purpose vehicle. It operates the largest cross-section parts warehouse of the Austrian Armed Forces and fulfills its tasks according to business management principles. The center has also been successfully training apprentices for many years. It is currently training 13 apprentices in five different professions.

Colonel Hermann Tischler handed over command to Colonel Gisbert Wallner.

Colonel Hermann Tischler has been in charge of the Salzburg Army Logistics Center since its establishment, i.e. for more than 16 years. “My thanks go to the dedicated employees of the Salzburg Army Logistics Center who have supported me during my more than 16 years in command. I wish them all the best for the future. I wish Colonel Wallner the best of luck and success in his new role,” said Colonel Tischler. The new commander, Colonel Gisbert Wallner, said in his inaugural speech: “I would like to underline my attachment to the Salzburg Army Logistics Center and its staff with the words of a British historian: ‘A commander does his real work when he talks to his people and thereby motivates them’.” The army’s logistics professionals support the armed forces in all situations, whether in daily operations, during exercises or on the many missions at home and abroad. The logisticians’ tasks include the provision, maintenance and distribution of weapons systems, ammunition, operating resources, equipment, clothing and a wide range of other supplies.
