Saab announced at Aéro Montréal the creation of two new aerospace centers with thousands of jobs in the greater Montreal area. The establishment is part of Saab’s offer of 88 Gripen E fighter aircraft and a comprehensive support and training package for Canada’s Future Fighter Capability Project (FFCP, Military News reported).
The two centers are to be run separately as the Gripen Center and the Aerospace Research & Development Center and “bring prosperity and job security to the entire province of Quebec”, as Micael Johansson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Saab, emphasizes.
The Gripen Center will act as the industrial and technological heart of fighter jet integration in Canada and ensure that Gripen meets NORAD and NATO requirements. The center will also be an important hub in “supporting and maintaining relationships with the Saab Group in Sweden” and will allow Canada to manage future upgrades of the fighter jet domestically.
The Aerospace Research and Development Center will independently develop, test and produce next-generation aerospace systems and components to complement Canada’s existing aerospace industry with unmanned aerial systems, artificial intelligence and green aviation technologies.
