Saab has signed a multi-year framework agreement with the US Army for the latest version of the Carl Gustaf shoulder-launched multi-role weapon.
The contract enables the US armed forces to place orders for the system known in the US Army as M3E1 and worldwide as M4 worth up to 87 million US dollars (just under 74 million euros) over a period of seven years. An initial order worth 9.2 million US dollars (7.8 million euros) has already been agreed and is to be delivered next year. The systems are to be used by the US Army, the Marine Corps and the Special Operations Command. “With its light weight and ease of use, the weapon is designed to meet the needs of modern soldiers and modern battlefields,” said Erik Smith, President and CEO of Saab in the USA. “The weapon is also versatile thanks to its wide range of ammunition.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCSVsM2mJWA&feature=youtu.be&fbclid=IwAR0e8igYboKoe7Yv5troqIKRybu4ZFKZxx864Ev5HRZpoMkvUeG1bylfIJ8 The Carl Gustaf system has been in service in the USA since 2013 and the US Army announced its intention to acquire the latest version of the system back in 2018. At 6.7 kg, the M4 version is 28 percent lighter than its predecessor, the M3. In 2019, the US Army signed a framework agreement for Carl Gustaf ammunition.
